TO ALL SETTLETALK READERS

Just a short note…

You probably have noticed that my focus on columns this year has been more on education of local political issues with less political comment.

With limited resources the local media does a good job in reporting local government news. Time restraints and busy schedules often preclude detailed explanation of complex issues.

Knowledge of the local elected officials and their respective backgrounds, both personally and politically, provides insight into many of their votes.

Additionally close attention to discussions at key committee meeting of both the Caddo Commission and the Shreveport City Council, as well at the work sessions and regular meetings, provides invaluable insight.

Monitoring other media sources and communicating with media people also provides valuable background information.

Backup data is also obtained from public documents, legal sources, interviews, and other publications.

Reader comments are welcome—good, bad or indifferent. Questions from readers are always welcomed and emails are answered.

Column ideas as well as confidential ‘”scoops” are appreciated---with NO disclosure of sources.

Please share all or part of any column with anyone, at any time. No need to give me credit for the writing.

Also, please post on social media.

I have a large email list, and I am trying to expand it. You can forward additional addresses and/or suggest to others that they email me directly.

I am honored that my columns have appeared frequently in The Shreveport Times, The 318 Forum, The Shreveport Sun and The Inquisitor.

Thanks, John Settle
