OCHSNER LSU REVITALIZING ST. MARY MEDICAL CENTER

In the spring of 2019, Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport announced the revitalization of the former Schumpert facility in the heart of the Highland neighborhood on Margaret Place. A month later Ochsner LSU Health opened a neurosurgery clinic and in the fall a neurosurgery clinic.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Ochsner LSU Health kept with original plans and opened a comprehensive diagnostic and imaging center this March and an ambulatory surgery center this month at its new Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – St. Mary Medical Center.

Located at 945 Margaret Place in Shreveport, the state-of-the-art Imaging Center includes MRI, CT, mammography, X-ray, ultrasound and bone density scans. The Surgery Center has 12 patient rooms with en suite bathrooms for patients requiring overnight recovery, four state-of-the-art multipurpose operating rooms, and multipurpose procedure and consultation rooms. Physicians including Dr. Bharat Guthikonda, chief of neurosurgery, and Dr. Shane Barton, chief of orthopedics at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport are already performing cases at the new surgery center.

Inpatient women’s and children’s (obstetric and pediatric including labor and delivery, NICU and PICU) services were permanently moved to from the Ochsner LSU Health hospital on Kings Highway to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – St. Mary Medical Center in a rapid move last month in order to allow room for additional ICU capacity on Kings Highway with critical care specialists. The women’s and children’s services will remain at its St. Mary Medical Center.

Ochsner LSU Health plans to continue enhancing services at St. Mary Medical Center and is also moving forward with multi-million dollar facility renovations at its hospital on Kings Highway and new primary care locations throughout the community with more details expected this summer.
