Shreveport voters in District E have two names on the Dec. 10 ballot.
Alan Jackson, the fill-in candidate for James Flurry is one of these. Jackson finished second in the primary election to Tony Nations.
Jackson was appointed to the Shreveport city council in Dec. of last year.
Since his appointment Jackson's actions in his personal and his public life as a council member have been pathetic, embarrassing, unethical and at least one instance illegal.
Here is a partial list of Jackson's "accomplishments" in the last year:
1. For good or bad, Jackson has been endorsed by Greg Tarver.
2. In the primary, Jackson endorsed Adrian Perkins.
3. Jackson has filed campaign finance reports with the Louisiana Ethics Commission that fail to list the full addresses of donors.
4. Jackson only attended one hour of the nine plus hours of the 2023 budget briefings to the Shreveport city council.
5. Jackson held a town hall meeting at Southwood High School without the required permission of Caddo superintendent Goree.
6. Jackson launched a campaign website that listed its address as the council office at Government Plaza and his city of Shreveport email address.
7. Jackson acquired a 30% ownership interest in the Hookah Bar/Lounge and did not report his ownership acquisition to state and local alcohol agencies and obtain new liquor licenses for the bar as required by state and local law.
8. Jackson and his wife have posted on social media many pictures that are considered by most citizens to be totally inappropriate and in some instances indecent.
Jackson's votes and actions on the council are reflective of a "tagalong" mentality with council members James Green and Tabatha Taylor.
Jackson now has a record of 11 months on the council by which he can be judge in the polls as he seeks an elected versus appointed term. By all accounts and standards, Jackson has earned at best a "D", if not an "F", for his service.
