It’s possible.
In fact, there are efforts to accomplish just that due in large part to American Rescue Act Plan funding.
The city of Shreveport will receive a total of $48.2 million, Caddo Parish $46.6 million and the Caddo School Board $66.3 million.
Discussions have been had between Shreveport mayor’s office, the Caddo Commission and the Caddo School Board for a joint funding of internet expansion. The current numbers being discussed are for the city to kick in $5 million, the parish $2 million and Caddo Schools an undecided sum.
Internet access has proven to be elusive for all Caddo Schools students, and the pandemic has accentuated the need for full access.
Full implementation of parish-wide access will probably require additional funding from the private sector, and a public-private partnership may be the solution.
The good news is that discussions have been started.
These three bodies are also considering funding to the Sci-Port Discovery Center to update the IMAX theater.
