On Tuesday, July 1, Tommy Chandler was sworn into office for his second consecutive term of office.
He recapped his first term in a publicly released letter that will be on MailChimp tomorrow morning (Tues). Additionally, an op-ed from Wes Merriott will be sent out critical of Chandler's statement and first term. Both of these columns were published in Friday's FOCUS SB.
Chandler also appeared in KEEL radio studios for an interview on the Mike and McCarty show day after his new term began on Wed, July 2. As expected he touted his term as mayor and shared his plans/hopes/dreams for the second term. Most informed listeners were underwhelmed by his comments and disappointed with the softball questions from the radio hosts.
Publication of the two FOCUS SB columns and the radio interview prompted several Bossierites to forward questions that need to be answered by Mayor Chandler, preferably in writing for the Council, the public and this blog.
1. How do you feel about the Bossier Council investigation into the paved parking lots at Bossier Power Equipment and Scot's Audio on Benton Road?
2. Why did you fail to provide a report on the parking lots as promised to the Council?
3. Wasn't the so-called access issue for Scot's resolved when the Council approved a new driveway from Citizens Bank Drive to that facility?
4. What were the total costs for the two new parking lots and access lane from the Bossier Power parking lot to the Scot's parking lot?
5. What was the funding source for these improvements?
6. Why did you not seek approval from the Bossier Council before authorization of construction of the parking lots?
7. Who complained to you and/or discussed with you the Scot's access issue and resolution of the same?
8. What reason(s) do you have for authorizing the parking lot improvements?
9. Do you think the construction and expenditure for these parking lots constitutes a violation of the limitations on the public use of funds set forth in the Louisiana Constitution? If not, why not?
10. Did you have the approval of any other Bossier employee and/or Council member(s) to authorize and then pay for the parking lots?
11. What was the deciding factor in your decision on the parking lots---access to Scots' or cracked slabs? If slabs, did you have a professional engineer inspect the same prior to making your decision?
12. Since the authorization/expenditure for the parking lots, have you received any legal input on the validity of your decisions? If so, from who?
13. What role(s) did city attorney Charles Jacobs and assistant city attorney Richard Ray have in the decision-making process for authorizing the expenditure for the parking lots?
14. There has been at least one claim of cracked parking lot and cracked slab on Citizens Bank Drive. How did you intend to resolve these claims after authorizing the new parking lots at Bossier Power Equipment and Scot's Audio?
If Chandler answers these inquiries, more questions will undoubtedly surface. The 14 listed will be a good start assuming the mayor agrees to promptly and candidly respond.
