It was a two hour meeting full of news on Shreveport crime, both bad and good.Here are the highlights of SPD Chief Wayne Smith's remarks:1.  Good news: Part 1 crime--homicide, rape, robbery, burglary, theft, assault and batter--is down.

SHREVEPORT SUBSIDIZES CRAWFEST BY OVER $33,000 TO CHARGE ADMISSION TO THE  FOR PROFIT PROMOTERS

What a deal!And a precedent setting one at that.The city of Shreveport allowed CRAWFEST promoters to charge an admission fee for the FIRST TIME  this year. This on top of allowing the use of most of Betty Virginia Park for 5 days RENT FREE--one day for setup, 3 days festival, and one day take down.

SHREVEPORT'S POLICY ON PUBLIC PARKS NOT FOLLOWED WITH CRAWFEST 2023

Shreveport public parks were the venues for over 100 permitted events in 2022.None of these charged an admission fee.None of these tied up a city park for three days except CRAWFEST.This year permits have been issued for 20 events at city parks.

Shanerika Fleming was recently appointed the clerk of the city council.Fleming had lost her job with the Perkins administration when his term ended.She was involved in the ill-fated switch of the city's insurance carrier before Perkins actually took office.

SHREVEPORT COUNCILWOMAN TAYLOR SHOULD EXPLAIN ABSTENTION ON VOTE

Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor has served on the Shreveport City Council since May of 2020. Since that time, she has had hundreds of votes as council member.At. the Tues. council meeting Taylor abstained for the FIRST time on any vote.

Wonderful spring weather visited Shreveport this past week, after the Friday storms and early Sat. clouds.And Shreveport citizens of all backgrounds were restored to their unlimited use of one of Shreveport's most popular parks--Betty Virginia Park.
