On Monday (Sept. 21) Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith gave his monthly crime report on calls for service to the Shreveport City Council comparing year to date with Sept. 21, 2025. Here are the calls for service: 1. Felonies   Down 13% 2. Vehicle thefts   Down 14% 3.

THERON JACKSON OFFICIALLY RESIGNS FROM MPC

 At the July meeting of the Shreveport Caddo Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) Theron Jackson announced that it was his last meeting. This week he sent his written resignation before the Wed. 7 Aug. meeting.Jackson stated that he no longer had the time to continue to serve on the board.

SHREVEPORT CTO EXPLAINS $7 MILLION BOND PROPOSAL

One of the suggested projects for the proposed bond issue is $7 million for a Smart City Infrastructure Fund. Shreveport’s Chief Technology Officer Keith Hanson was asked to explain why this funding was needed.And specifically what the benefits would be for Shreveport citizens.

WHO WILL BE NEW SHREVEPORT POLICE CHIEF?

It’s a four part answer.It depends on who makes passing grade of 75 on the Civil Service Police Chief exam. Then it depends on who the advisory committee recommends to mayor Adrian Perkins. Then it depends on who the mayor selects.Lastly it depends on who the Shreveport city council confirms.

WILL SELECTION OF CADDO REGISTRAR OF VOTERS BE DELAYED?

Probably.The Caddo Commission will decide next Thursday Aug. 8.The Commission established a time line for the selection process at a special meeting on July 18.  To comply with state law an ad must be published twice in the Caddo Citizen newspaper, the official journal of the parish.

DOES SHREVEPORT NEED TO HAVE LEGAL BILLING AUDITOR?

 Last year the city of Shreveport spent more than $1 million in fees for attorneys representing the city. The top fees paid were to Abrams & Lafargue ($298 grand), Edwin Byrd ($281 grand), Nicole Buckle ($161 grand), and Jennifer McKay ($111 grand).

REVENUES FROM SHREVEPORT BOSSIER CASINOS CONTINUE DECLINE

It’s a reality that is unlikely to change.Gaming revenues statewide and locally are on the decline. June’s reports were again a dismal read.The local market has 6 casinos and Louisiana Downs, a racino. June’s totals from the casinos was 6.7% less than May. The track was off 6.6%.
