Suspended Judge Sims Almost Runs Over SPD Officer's Foot

It was almost midnight on Oct. 3, 2026 when a Shreveport Police Department (SPD) officer attempted to stop suspended Shreveport city judge Sheva Sims at Milam and Spring Street because she was driving her Jeep without its headlights on.

An SPD officer exited his marked patrol car with its emergency red/blue lights activated and gave verbal commands, hand signals and his flashlight to direct Sims where he wanted her to stop her car.

The SPD officer was attempting to direct Sims out of the lane of traffic and despite making eye contact she did not follow his instructions and almost ran over the officer’s foot. It was necessary for the officer to open the car door and place the vehicle in park after Sims initially refused to exit while the motor was running.

After other officers arrived, Sims finally exited the vehicle. When her driver’s license was requested, the officer’s report reads that “she appeared confused and provided slow response to questions and commands.”

Sims passed the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, which did not indicate any alcohol/drug impairment.

Before being released, Sims said she was unable to hear the officer’s commands during the initial interaction and that she “was tired, sleepy, and old.”

Sims status as a judge most likely was the reason she was not cited for driving without her headlights on and other offenses.

There is some unconfirmed scuttlebutt that Sims is talking about suing SPD because the officer pulled on her left wrist when she refused to exit the vehicle so that he could reach and put the vehicle into park. One can surmise that any action by Sims will be after the Nov. 3 election.
