YESTERDAY’S COUNCIL MEETING–JENKINS, PANNELL AND LIQUOR STORE

There were 3 key votes by the Shreveport city council at yesterday’s meeting.

Former council member Oliver Jenkins was appointed to the Shreveport Airport Authority board. Grant Nuckols had resigned from the board, creating a vacancy.

Jenkins brings much needed experience as a military pilot and leader, city council member and business man to this highly maligned group that is in the process of selecting the next airport director.

Seven of the nine commissioners at the Port requested that Shreveport mayor Adrian Perkins remove embattled port commissioner James Pannell. The council approved Perkin’s request to vacate Pannell’s board appointment.

Pannell , who is very vocal, has been disruptive at many board meetings. Reportedly he actually resides in New Orleans, not Shreveport.

The special use permit for a liquor store on the corner of Kings Highway and Gilbert Drive was approved with a required closing time of 9 p.m. .

The council vote was 6-1. Chair Jerry Bowman JR was the dissenting member. Bowman wanted the closing hour to remain at midnight.
