CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL HEADS BACK TO COURTHOUSE

This time the trip will be shorter for the attorneys. The last legal battle was in federal court in Monroe. This time the venue will be at the Caddo courthouse—where the memorial is located.

The Shreveport Chapter #237 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) recently filed suit against the Caddo Commission and the parish of Caddo requesting that the commission be enjoined from claiming ownership of the memorial. The suit is filed in response to a demand letter by the Commission to remove the monument by Nov. 26.

The suit asks that just compensation be paid to the UDC for irreparable harm for any taking of the monument.

The hearing is set for Jan. 13 before Caddo district judge Craig Marcotte.
