POLITICAL SIGNS–CORRECTION ON SIZE

The "Political Signs Fact Sheet" issued by Shreveport Public Works previously published on Settletalk references a city ordinance that was repealed after the adoption of the Unified Development Code (UDC).

Stephen Jean, MPC deputy director, advises that the MPC is "still utilizing the 8 square foot size on residential properties and the 16 square foot size on non-residential property" that was set forth in the now repealed ordinance.

"Signs on residential properties are regulated as yard signs and signs on non-residential properties are regulated as free-standing signs under the UDC."

Political signs are often posted on vacant lots, or in front of vacant and/or rental properties. Shreveport ordinances require the written and notarized permission of the property owner for these sign placements.
