THERE ARE RECYCLING OPTIONS FOR SHREVEPORT - BOSSIER AFTER ALL!

JOHN E. SETTLE JR.

Despite the fact that Shreveport’s recycling options ended on Oct. 31, there are other options for local environmentally conscious residents.

Bossier City has a recycling center at 3301 Shed Road, between Highway 80 and Shed Road. It is accessible from Crowning Line and Tinsley Boulevard and from the Old Minden Road extension.

The facility is open 24 hours a day/seven days a week. The drop-off bins are under a well-lit, drive-through area, which is protected from the weather.

Here is what is accepted:

Cans -- which must be rinsed; aluminum and steel must be separated.

Clear plastic 1 PET -- soda bottles; discard lids and rinse.

Cloudy plastic 2 HDPE -- water, milk and juice jugs; discard lids and rinse.

Corrugated paper/cardboard -- flatten boxes.

Mixed paper.

Newspaper and telephone books.

There is no charge for use of the Bossier Recycling Center.

Another option for Shreveport Bossier is CFG Recycling (CFG), which is operated by Christ Fit Gym. Located in Bossier, CFG operates in both Shreveport and Bossier.

The residential recycling program requires a $50 upfront fee for the recycling bin.

There is no monthly charge, but tax-deductible donations are requested.

CFG will separate the recyclables and pick up the bins at the front door.

More information can be obtained from CFG on routes and pickup dates (phone 573-3666).
