NORTH SHREVEPORT BUSINESS ASSOCIATION SETS A HIGH BAR

There's little doubt that the North Shreveport Business Association (NSBA) is the most active community organization in Shreveport, if not northwest Louisiana. And one of the oldest.

The NSBA begin in 1987 as the Agurs Business Association. Its goal was to reduce crime in the north Shreveport area.

In 2007 the association changed its name to reflect its expanded service and goals to the North Shreveport Business Association. It now represents businesses from the Red River to Cross Bayou, and from downtown Shreveport to the northern city limits of Shreveport.

The mission of the NSBA is to educate, inform and to provide beneficial services to its members and actively represent, promote and support the business community of north Shreveport.

Relying on membership dues and fundraising projects, this non-profit organization supports educational needs in area neighborhood schools, annual activities supporting police, fire and sheriff departments and more. The monthly lunch meetings always feature speakers

The monthly lunch meetings always feature speakers of interest. Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond was the January speaker.

Upcoming speakers include Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell (February), Caddo Registrar of Voters Dale Sibley (March), Bossier-Webster District Attorney Schuyler Marvin (August), and Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator (September).

Additional speakers who have been contacted for this year include Gov. John Bel Edwards, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungessor, Department of Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson, Shreveport and Bossier Chambers of Commerce executives Dr. Tim Magner and Lisa Johnson, and Second Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Ted Cox.

The NSBA list of 2019 projects and events is lengthy. They included their annual crayfish boil, the yearly Heroes BBQ cookoff, the 2019 Dallas W. Greene Fire Chief Award, the annual Shreveport Fire Department awards and appreciation banquets, and the annual Shreveport Police Department awards and appreciation banquets.
