Prior to the serious onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shreveport City Council was in a torrid battle over certain administrative appointments, certain economic downtown development projects, and in the opinion of this writer, a general divisiveness which was not productive for the city as a whole. This kind of divisive spirit is not entirely relegated to the council as a whole but a wave of elected officials both local, state and nationally. The announcement (s) recently of the potential devastating effects the COVID-19 pandemic will have upon our future ways of life are enough within themselves to cause each of us, citizens and elected officials alike, to take a step back and consider our ways. The overall cultures of our society will never be the same following this pandemic. Perhaps, just perhaps, this crisis will bring persons across this city, state, nation and world closer together void of prejudices, biases and just plain “bitter” personalities.
