VICTORY GARDENS OFFER POSITIVITY IN ANXIOUS TIMES

ONE-ON-ONE INTERVIEW WITH CADDO PARISH COMMISSIONER JOHN-PAUL YOUNG

So, Commissioner Young ...

(Interrupting) Just John-Paul, please.

OK, John-Paul, you’re the Caddo Commissioner for District 4, correct?

Yes, for the last three months. I just got elected in October, so I’m new to the system and politics generally.

But you’re not new to the victory garden concept, are you? Can you tell me about that?

Sure. Victory gardens are just gardens that are focused on rapid yields of annual vegetables. The name comes from the promotion of these gardens during WWII, when the nation needed citizens to increase yields of produce crops. A lot had to be sent overseas, and citizen-owned and -operated gardens helped fill the gap for families of every income range.
