For some individuals, it is not enough to appeal to them to adhere to health guidelines and safety requests. Though I have not noticed a serious amount of social gatherings, I have noticed some.
Such was the case in my community on March 28. The gathering, which was considered to have a number of issues, was reported by the neighborhood association to Councilman Jerry Bowman Jr., and he did proceed to address it.
If the compassionate, common sense appeals of Mayor Adrian Perkins, Gov. John Bel Edwards, as well as prominent city, state and community leaders aren’t adhered to, then leaders must consider taking stronger measures. COVID-19 “aint” no joke! Citizens must be willing to report the “jokers” who act like it is.
The numerous health and safety measures, economic burdens and educational strains brought on by COVID-19 demand that citizens shelter in place and continue to make every human effort to help cease the spread of this virus.
Praise be to God for the prayers being prayed and sermons being preached in regards to the virus. The healings and recovery of many may be attributed to our prayers, praise and the untiring efforts of our medical professionals.
Yet, there are those who pray and will not obey and others who neither pray nor obey. Let this group be reminded that our leaders have “options” to choose from in times of crisis, and these options may not be opened for discussion (including arrests and fines).
Our leaders have families themselves. They should not have to endanger their health, family and lives due to the intentional negligence of others.
Let’s respect one another and follow the directions of those we have chosen to lead.
Adavion, my son, recently reminded me: God has not given us the spirit of fear. The closing part of this scripture references that “He has given us a sound mind.”
Let us use our sound mind.
