SHREVEPORT CITY COUNCIL CAN DELAY APPOINTMENT OF DISTRICT A INTERIM COUNCIL MEMBER

Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a public health emergency declaration on Mar. 11.

One of the provisions of this executive order suspended legal deadlines which includes the 20-day deadline for a governing body to appoint an interim office-holder of a declared  vacancy.

Edwards confirmed the suspension of this deadline in a recent letter to Minden  Mayor Terry Gardner in response to an inquiry concerning a vacancy on the Minden city council.

KTBS reporter Vickie Welborn published a story today on Edwards’ letter and
the suspension of the 20-day deadline. https://www.ktbs.com/news/governor-says-minden-council-has-authority-to-fill-vacancy/article_8cdfef7e-8e23-11ea-93ef-c3c0ac033fce.html
