PROTESTERS AND NEW RACIAL/DIVERSITY COMMISSION

Last Thursday Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins announced a 26 member Commission on Racial and Cultural Diversity

On Sunday a Black Lives Matter (BLM)  rally started at SPORTRAN facility on Murphy and ended at the Caddo courthouse steps. The protest was illegal in the sense that a permit was not obtained for the rally on the courthouse grounds.

Reportedly one or more members of the mayor’s commission was in attendance.

Yesterday a BLM rally was held at the Shreveport Police Department headquarters building. The rally blocked an entrance to the facility from the Murphy Street parking lot.

A member of the Commission participated in the protest by his attendance.

This raises questions to many.

Additionally a Caddo public defender was at the rally yesterday and addressed the crowd. Whether or not he was on the public clock or personal time is another question.

These are questions that members of the commission should ask themselves. And the Caddo Public Defender should advise on attendance at political events during the workday.
