PERKINS ADMINISTRATION PROPOSES BUDGET CUTS

It’s no secret that drastic reductions in Shreveport’s city budget must be made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the Tuesday work session/regular meeting of the Shreveport city council many budget reduction ordinances are on the agenda for a first reading.

These ordinances can not be adopted until the June 23 meeting.

All changes to the city’s 2020 budget—increases, decreases, fund transfers—require council approval.

Here is listing of proposed budget cuts:

1.    Golf Enterprise Fund-- $57,000
2.    Solid Waste Enterprise Fund--$396,200
3.    Metropolitan Planning Commission-- $87,000
4.    Community  Development Special Revenue Fund-- $125,600
5.    Water and Sewerage Enterprise Fund -- $3,588,100
6.    Airport Enterprise Fund Budget--$287,000
7.    Street Special Revenue Fund--$2,380,000
8.    Diversion Program Special Revenue Fund--$14,000
9.    Shreveport Convention Center Maintenance--$200,00
10.    Riverfront Development Special Revenue Fund--$492,300 (This is based on anticipated loss of revenue from Boomtown, Eldorado and Sam’s Town casinos)
11.    General Fund for city departments--$7,454,200

These budget cuts total $15,081,400. The administration has projected a $25,000,000 budget shortfall.
