JIM”S WIFE
Most weekdays Jim picks me up for lunch, and we go to Bossier Park, or as we call it, Brownlee Park, to watch the kids play for that hour break. Winter through summer, there is almost always people walking the path and kids enjoying the playground.
What a great place it is that Bossier City offers for free. At Brownlee Park there is a rock-climbing rock, lots of slides and swings. Covered picnic tables scattered throughout and — best of all! — a water playground that has sprinklers and jets in colorful assortments. Oh, yeah, there are walking paths for those inclined to walk or jog. I understand there is also a water park in Haughton and that Shreveport has one. I have only been to Brownlee Park, so I cannot discuss the merits of the others, but I bet they are wonderful places in children’s eyes.
Sometimes we get strange looks from people probably wondering why there are two people sitting in their car watching kids. I get it. I expect the police to drive up at anytime. If you see something, report something. I know that no one wants to be a Karen Kravitz, but children’s safety is the most important. That being said, if you see a couple sitting there in their car watching and the pretty lady smiles and maybe waves, it is us, and we are not looking for trouble, even though the man has squinty eyes and gets pulled over at all airports. Apparently, he does have a criminal look to him.
I hope to one day have a day that I can come up and play in the water park. Do you have to be accompanied by a child to play? I have never noticed any adults in the playground other than those that are chasing down a child. But I am determined to come up one day and just stand in the water around the brightly colored pipes and watch the water rainbows appear. Are there any posted signs saying old folks not allowed?
I have always loved picnics – Jim says we are picnicking in the vehicle. Does not seem quite the same, but I can’t talk him into unloading at one of the picnic tables. Just a heads up – the park is wheelchair accessible. A picnic and park experience is supposed to be a joyful time for all. Great job on making sure all are included.
Back to the essence of the park. I am proud that the city furnishes a great playtime experience for children. It is also a great place for adults to plan wholesome activities for the whole family. The colors are bright and fun. To just sit and listen to the laughter, chatter and squeals of the children can make anyone’s gloomy day brighter.
Good job, city!
