Correction: SPECIAL COMMISSION MEETING TO CHANGE MASK AGE AND PUBLIC SAFETY AT COURTHOUSE

A special meeting of the Caddo Commission will be held tomorrow Tues. at 1 p.m. by ZOOM.

One agenda item is "discussion/action relative public safety at the Caddo Parish Courthouse and within the 500 block of Texas Street."

The Caddo courthouse and the Confederate Monument are located on this downtown city block. The parish owns the courthouse and the Caddo Parish Sheriffs Office is responsible for public safety, inside the courthouse: Shreveport Police Department is responsible for public safety on courthouse grounds.

Discussions have been had among the commissioners to build a protective enclosure for the monument. This would hopefully preclude actions taken in other cities to damage monuments. Commissioner Lyndon Johnson is sponsoring the resolution.

Another agenda item is to raise the age requirement for children from 2 years to 8 years. This would comport with Gov. John Bel Edward's most recent executive order. Commissioner John-Paul Young is the sponsor of this resolution.

Both of these legislative proposals have substantial merit.
