BAD GOVERNMENT TO HAVE OVERLAPPING COUNCIL AND COMMISSION MEETINGS

There are plenty local examples of "bad government" that could be cited, depending on how far back one wishes to remember.

Add to the list the ZOOM meeting of the Caddo Commission on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

This was a special called meeting to approve the appointment of a parish engineer, approve three programs that the CARES Act will reimburse and to approve a satellite early voting location.

The meeting was called for 3:30 p.m.

The Shreveport City Council regular meeting commenced at 3 p.m. This was a "live" meeting.

The special meeting could have been called for noon or 1 p.m. Or even on Wednesday, Aug. 29.

There is no logical justification for having an overlapping meeting.

Just because six of the Commissioners may have requested that time is not an excuse.

Perhaps it’s poetic justice that the Democrat Commissioners failed in their primary goal of getting a second voting location.

Once again the citizens of Caddo Parish, and especially those that follow the actions/inactions of the Commission, were disregarded in this decision making process.

All 12 Commissioners should be scolded.

Hopefully, Zoom meetings will be discontinued in the near future. Alternatively, they should not be scheduled by the Commission or the Council to overlap a meeting of the other entity.
