DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN?

JON GLOVER CONTRIBUTING COLUMNIST

What is the Democratic Party’s platform for the 2020 presidential election? What is the Republican Party’s platform for the 2020 presidential election? Does anyone really know?

Does either platform represent the wholeness of Americans, “we the people”?

A civic lesson may prove beneficial at this point.

In 1828, the Democratic Party started as a pro-slavery party. The Democratic Party became a proponent of racial equality. Research reveals that the party’s philosophy of modern liberalism advocates social and economic equality, along with the welfare state. The party seeks to provide government intervention and regulation in the economy. These interventions support for labor unions, affordable college tuitions, moves toward universal health care and equal opportunity, consumer protection and environment protection form the core of the party’s economic policy.

In 1854, the Republican Party started as an anti-slavery party. The party’s philosophy centers on social and economic independence and a capitalist economic system. The party is known for its pro-life efforts, anti-regulatory policy and reduction of government intervention in the economy, as well as being in support of privatized health care.

Knowledge is power. Without knowledge, pawns are what “we the people” have become. When “we the people” are pawns, “we the people” are moved randomly over the board.

So whom do you trust? Which of these parties do you trust with your life? With your future and your families’ future?

Both parties are vying for your/our support. What will you or I do to ensure that whomever we choose is worthy of our vote and represent our voice?

With much contention ongoing, how do we exercise due diligence and vote for the representative that represents our country, “we the people”?

As voters, we will soon enter the voting booth to cast our ballot for representatives to represent us, “we the people,” for the next two, four years.

We have a big job before us and must equip ourselves with knowledge to assure that the best candidates are selected to represent us.

We, the American people, have been behind the eight ball of politics. Are our views being represented or only special interest groups? It is time to bring these old practices to a halt.

We, as Americans, deserve representatives that show dignity, respect, a moral compass and integrity, all of which personifies true leadership. Nothing less will be or should be acceptable.

If we are ever going to have a truly great America, then we, the voting public, must elect good stewards to represent us, “we the people.”

It is a big pill to swallow choosing the representatives that indeed represent you and I, “we the people.”

Therefore, you have a bit more knowledge about the two largest parties, the two most influential parties that seem to decide the fate of all, “we the people.” Make that choice carefully.

Your future depends on it.
