JUDGE  O’CALLAGHAN APPOINTED INTERIM FOR JUDGE GARRETT

Second Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jeanette Garrett recently announced her plans to retire from the bench on Jan. 6, 2022.

Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Scott Crichton has appointed Caddo district Judge Brady O'Callaghan to fill Garrett's seat until a replacement is elected.

The appointment of O'Callaghan as judge pro tempore is from Jan. 7, 2002 through May 31, 2022, or until the vacancy is filled.

Reportedly O'Callaghan will not be able to run for the open seat.

Caddo judge Craig Marcotte and Judge Erin Leigh Waddell have announced their intentions to run for this seat. The election is March, 25, 2022.

David McClatchey is the judicial administrator for the First Judicial Court. Presumably he will serve as judge ad hoc in O'Callaghan's court until the Garrette's replacement is elected.

The appointment raises the obvious question of why appoint a sitting judge and thereby create an interim vacancy on the Caddo bench?
