John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

 

HOW IS SHREVEPORT GOING TO FUND PROPOSED PAYRAISES?

Council members Tabitha Tayor, James Green and Jerry Bowman, Jr. are sponsoring a series of ordinances to increase the current salaries of all full-time city of Shreveport employees by an aggregate amount of 13 %.
The ordinances are on the agenda for the combined work session/regular meeting on Dec. 28. They can be adopted on Jan. 11, 2022.
Here is a summary of these proposals:

Ord. 215 moves $28,100 from the Riverfront Fund Budget to Personal Services;
Ord. 216 moves $9,760,100 from the Retained Risk Fund Budget to the General Fund budget;
Ord. 217 moves $33,440 from the Retained Risk Fund Budget to Personal Services;
Ord. 218 moves $131,900 from the Metropolitan Planning Commission Special Revenue Fund Budget to Personal Services;
Ord. 219 moves $486,300 from the Community Development Special Revenue Fund Budget to Personal Services;
Ord. 220 moves $33,00 from the Golf Enterprise Fund Budget to Personal Services;
Ord. 221 moves $348,100 from the Airports Enterprise Fund Budget to Personal Services;
Ord. 222 moves $1,237, 300 from the Water and Sewerage Enterprise Fund Budget to Personal Services;
Ord. 223 moves $372,500 from the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund Budget to Personal Services:
Ord. 224 moves $3,619,700 from the General Fund Operating Reserves to Police (3,757,100) and Fire ($3,619,700).
These budget amendments total $19,808,240.
The funding sources for these proposed budget increases have not been fully disclosed by the sponsors or the Perkins administration.
