CAN DURWOOD HENDRICKS SERVE ON SHREVEPORT CITY COUNCIL?

A question that was NOT answered by the Shreveport's city council tie vote on replacing James Flurry on the council is Durwood Hendricks's employment and council qualification.

Hendricks is a federal employee, working for the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Some commentators believe that the Hatch Act prevents Hendrick as a federal employee from serving on the city council.

A definitive opinion was not asked for from the city attorney before today's  vote.

Even if the Hatch Act is not prohibitive,  good government practices may not favor his being , in effect, a federal employee and a city of Shreveport employee at the same time.
