So … what’s happened since then?

1. The contract with Republic Services ended Oct. 8, 2020.
2. Pratt Industries closed down its recycling facility and sold the equipment.
3. The worldwide demand for recycling paper and plastics has decreased substantially.
4. Bossier-based Christ Fit Gym has started a home recycling company: CFG Recycling.
5. Shreveport has received responses for a Request for Proposal (RFP)for home recycling.
6. Reportedly the only responsive proposal is a proposed start-up minority company with no experience, no equipment and limited capital.

The real question that should be addressed by the city council is one of priorities.
Is home pickup recycling a “need” or a “want”? Should $2.50 per month added to water bills for this program be continued for recycling, applies to escalating water bills or be discontinued?
It’s a basic question that needs to be re-addressed.
