“This has been a tough year?” Perhaps that is an understatement of immense proportions; we have endured COVID-19, quarantining, a divisive election and Snowmageddon, too. We’re still standing, but I think we would all like to “resurrect” some measure of normalcy back into life. I find myself grateful that Easter is dawning.
A few weeks ago, on “Strategies for Living Radio,” I suggested a mnemonic for LENT: “Let’s Eliminate Negative Thinking.” A mnemonic is a device such as a pattern of letters, ideas or associations that assists in remembering. I think we have much remembering work to do, and EASTER could offer “Energy Allowing Spring To Enter and Renew.”
A few years back, a client gave me a tape set of a Christian evangelist who said, “Really look at the cross, and notice that it is a plus sign, not a minus sign.” He went on to suggest that, in an average life, we will endure several “crucifixion” events, and that our challenge is to always remember and move toward “resurrection.” I’ve heard a lot of sermons in my life, but I had never heard that before. I thought, “Wow, that’s powerful, I’ve got to remember that!” Love is pure energy. As humans with a mind that makes choices, we get to make decisions about what we allow into our lives, and what we keep out. Spring, with its greening and flowering is bursting forth all around us, and the key question is whether we will allow it to come into us now, renewing and refreshing us. We really NEED Easter this year!
