Allegiant Airlines recently started non-stop flights from Shreveport to Los Angeles.
These low-cost flights are a big boon for Shreveport and the Shreveport Regional Airport.
The Ark-La-Tex Regional Air Service Alliance (RASA) awarded Allegiant $50,000 to assist in marketing these flights. A payment of $25,000 was made in May, and the balance will be paid in August.
RASA has also provided financial support to Allegiant for the flights to and from Destin.
American Airlines received a RASA grant to commence the very successful Charlotte-Shreveport flights.
The Denver-Shreveport flights of United Airlines were also awarded funding by RASA. Currently these flights are in suspension due to construction at the Denver airport which has resulted in a loss of available gates.
RASA funding is “one-time funding” to provide risk abatement or marketing support for air service. The amount of support is determined by the destination number of seats and flights.
RASA is a non-profit whose purpose is to increase air service through Shreveport Regional Airport. RASA is funded by a .5% Shreveport-Bossier hotel-motel occupancy tax.
RASA is governed by a seven-member, non-paid board of directors chaired by Tim Wilhite.
