Shreveport has ten candidates seeking the mayor's job.
In reality there are only five major candidates, as defined by current/past political office and fundraising.
These are Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins, Shreveport City Councilwoman Levette Fuller, Caddo
Commissioner Mario Chavez, Senator Greg Tarver and former Shreveport council member Tom Arceneaux.
That means that come January four of these five will not be drawing a mayor's check from the city of Shreveport.
Hmmmm...so how put bread on the table, fuel up the "ride", and pay for "new threads" ?
Mayor Perkins has a law degree. Reportedly he receives a military disability from his prior service in the U.S. Army.
Councilwoman Fuller's sole income is her city check as a council member. She is a former employee of Shreve Memorial Library
Commissioner Chavez has his own business. He also draws a check from the commission.
Senator Tarver has income from a funeral home, an office supply company, and his state Senate check.
Arceneaux is a practicing attorney.
Life after a losing political race can be quite a challenge to a candidate's ego, psyche, and pocketbook.
Ego and psyche recover with time. Not so with the checkbook which demands immediate attention.
