Shreveport mayor Adrian Perkins was sworn into office on Dec. 29, 2018.
On Dec. 1, 2021 Perkins held his first State of the City press conference/webcast.
Now he has called a press event four (4) days before the Tues. primary to hold his second State of the City report.
This time he will be joined by Caddo Commission president John Atkins, Caddo School Superintendent
Dr. Lamar Goree, and NLEP executive director Justyn Dixon.
The press release advises that Perkins will address public safety, the economy, the city budget and technology.
Why Atkins, Goree and Dixon are needed for this "made for re-election dog and pony" is a mystery.
Seemingly these three are being played to promote/endorse Perkins in what is obviously a political event.
This thinly disguised political rally will be at 5:30 p.m. behind the aquarium. This is the city owned viewing area.
No doubt Perkins will have a full cast of city characters --like police, fire, department heads and the like
to round out the production. One can only wonder if all the city employees who attend will be on overtime or will get additional PTO for attending.
Since this is held on city property another question is whether or not the use for a political purpose is illegal and/or unethical.
As the incumbent Perkins has used his bully pulpit to the max with many press conferences in recent
weeks. To say he is pushing the envelope on this planned event is an understatement.
