Retired Shreveport Police Officer is in line to be named the Shreveport Whistleblower of the Year with his revelation today concerning nonpayment by the city of Shreveport to the Shreveport Police Pension Fund. This follows many reports from him on what the Health Care Trust Fund Board did and did not do properly this year.
Wilson is the secretary for this pension fund board. This fund is for the widows of police retirees.
Wilson and his board have investigated the nonpayment of over $1.2 million by the city of Shreveport to this fund. These moneys have been paid to the city from Shreveport City Court fines over the last four years, i.e., during the Perkins' administration.
Wilson and others will present their case to the Shreveport City Council at its combined work session/regular meeting on Mon. Nov. 7.
Wilson's discovery falls in line with the reports from former city comptroller Ben Hebert concerning improprieties in city accountings and handling of funds.
Wilson has a well-earned reputation of keeping careful notes, reading minutes, and studying issues and the applicable law in his service on this board as well as the city's Health Care Trust Fund Board. During the recent meetings of the health care board Wilson proved himself over and over as the "adult in the room."
Needless to say, the response of the Perkins' administration to Wilson's claims will be interesting, to say the least.
