NO RACE CAR SPONSORSHIP BY GRAMBLING STATE UNIVERSITY?

Last week the national media reported that NY Racing owner John Chen, a Grambling State University (GSU) alumnus, would have a car and driver in the NASCAR Cup series in Daytona.

Reportedly car no. 44, a Cheverolet Camaro, was sponsored by GSU and HBCU League Pass Plus. The car is painted black and adorned with the GSU logos and GSU gold-colored number and lettering.

Despite the publicity, a public records request to GSU concerning the sponsorship and documents related to the same, including funding for the sponsorship, was answered as follows:

"Per your request, there is no documentation to provide. Grambling State University did not provide any sponsorship for the NASCAR race car."
