WILL EVERY SHREVEPORT COUNCIL DISTRICT GET $1 MILLION FOR STREET IMPROVEMENTS?

The Shreveport city council is expected to vote on a special appropriation for street improvements in District A at its next meeting on Tues. Mar. 22.

No questions were asked about the proposed ordinance at the first reading of this ordinance.

This legislation moves $1,040,000 from the Streets Special Revenue Fund Operating Reserves to establish a District A Roadway Improvements Project for Thomas E. Howard Drive, Aero Drive, and Willis Street.

The ordinance fact sheet does not provide any other details.

Hopefully the following questions will be answered prior to the vote for the benefit of the public and the council:

1. How were these streets selected

2. What is the basis for establishing a special fund for District A

3. How does this designation of these streets impact the established roadway improvements program

4. Is this ordinance setting a precedence, and if so, what are the reasons for the same

5. Will other council members be able to have a special street fund in the same amounts for their district?

Good government principles dictate that spending decisions be made on justifiable factors that are disclosed to the public.
