ORDINANCE TO ALLOW ALCOHOL SALES IN SHREVEPORT GROCERY STORES TO BE INTRODUCED TUESDAY

Yes, you can buy wine and beer at your favorite Brookshires or Kroger or other grocery stores in Shreveport.

No, you can NOT buy hard alcohol at these locations unless in a physically separated area. Think the Albertson's on Southfield that has a liquor retail outlet next to the grocery story.

Yes, you can buy hard booze in Bossier City at full-service grocery stores.

No, these are NOT valid reasons to keep the "physical separation" rule in effect in Shreveport.

Yes, finally the Shreveport City Council may change the requirement to have a wall separating beer and wine from hard booze in grocery stores.

Council members Grayson Boucher, Levette Fuller, John Nickelson, and Jerry Bowman, Jr. have sponsored an ordinance to delete the physical separation requirement.

The amendment is on the agenda for this coming Mon. and Tues for first reading. That means it cannot be adopted until the council's July 12 meeting.

This change in the alcohol ordinance is long overdue.
