COUNCILMAN NICKELSON HOPES PERKINS ALLOWED TO RUN FOR MAYOR

To say it was unusual is an understatement.

Shreveport councilman John Nickelson issued a press release last Friday stating that disqualification of Shreveport Mayor Perkins from seeking re-election "is not in the public/ interest."

Nickelson characterized the the listing of Stratmore on the Notice of Candidacy was an "inadvertent misstatement concerning his voter registration precinct."

Nickelson justified his position by stating "voters should decide who leads our city for the next four years, not a paperwork error."

This same "paperwork error" occurred when Perkins qualified to run for the U.S. Senate in July of 2020.

The same "paperwork error" was repeated in March of this year when Perkins filed his Personal Financial Disclosure Statement with the Louisiana Ethics Board.

Its rare for a public official to weigh in on highly publicized case headed to the Louisiana Supreme Court for final adjudication.

Its even more rare for an attorney to make a public statement which could be flouting the Rules of Professional Responsibility that govern the actions of attorneys licensed in Louisiana.

To top it off, Nickelson is a staunch Republican that has insisted on strict adherence to city ordinances and regulations while sitting on the council.

One can only wonder is Nickelson would have taken this public position if he were seeking re-election to council.
