SHREVEPORT AIRPORT AUTHORITY'S STEALTH NOMINATION FOR AIRPORT DIRECTOR

The Shreveport Airport Authority (SAA) and its Board are often referred to as a  secret club.

SAA board members and staff seemingly  believe that all the rules governing public agencies don't apply to them.

The Louisiana Open Meetings Law and Public Records Act are not readily acknowledged by this group. There have been frequent violations of both of these important laws.

At a special meeting of the SAA Board on Aug 4, the board approved the nomination of Larry Blackwell to be named as the executive director. The board meeting minutes do not have any information on Blackwell.

The council's agenda for its meetings next Mon. and Tues. have Blackwell on the confirmation list.

To date the secret club aka SAA has not release any information on Blackwell.

The SAA has an infamous reputation of poor selections for its executive director.

Hopefully the council will insist upon a full vetting of Blackwell before a vote on his confirmation. This position has been open since the first of the year, so there should not be a rush to confirm Blackwell.
