IS TABATHA TAYLOR NOW THE ACTING CHAIR OF SHREVEPORT CITY COUNCIL?

Maybe yes, and maybe no.

The newly installed city council held its first meeting after their inauguration on Dec. 31.

The primary purpose of the required meeting is to elect a council chair and vice chair.

At the initial meeting James Green was nominated as chair. The vote was a 3-3 tie.

Tabatha Taylor, Alan Jackson, and Ursula Bowman voted for Green. Grayson Boucher, Jim Taliaferro and Gary Brooks noted "No" on Green.

Taylor was nominated for vice chair. Taylor voted for herself--which may have been an illegal vote. She was approved on a 6-1 vote. Boucher voted 'No".

After the first meeting was adjourned, a second meeting was called without 24 hour written public notice as required by the Open Meeting Law.

At this time Green was elected with four votes by Taylor, Jackson, Bowman, and Brooks.

This was NOT a valid election since no proper notice.

Presumably Taylor is the acting chair of the council.

But some question this because the chair was not properly elected.

Hmmm...not a great start by any manner of means.
