John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

 

DOES THE SHREVEPORT CITY CLERK'S OFFICE NEED A DIRECTOR OF COUNCIL AFFAIRS

Hmmm.

A resolution on the agenda for the Mon. and Tues. Shreveport city council meetings is to hire a Director of Council Affairs.

The resolution lists the responsibilities and duties of this position as follows:

1. manage the affairs between the Council and constituents

2. Prepare all communications of the Council

3. Act as a liaison between the Council and constituents

a. communicating the vision of the council to constituents

b. ensuring that concerns, problems, and/or inquiries are addressed, and

c. coordination a constituency newsletter for each district

4. Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Council

The resolution does not set the salary.

The resolution does not address the hiring process.

The new council clerk was picked by council president James Green with no advertising of the position or open discussion of the position at council meetings.

The clerk's office is currently staffed, as per the website, as follows:

Hopefully this resolution was be passed until another meeting to allow for full disclosure and public comment.

An inquiry has been made to the council clerk if this is a one or two reader. Past emails to the clerk have not been answered.
