QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR SHREVEPORT'S DIRECTOR OF COUNCIL AFFAIRS

For some unexplained reason, the majority of the Shreveport City Council are determined to quickly name the new pork position of Director of Council Affairs.

This scheme headed up by Alan Jackson is supported by council members James Green, Tabitha Taylor and newbie Ursula Bowman.

Finally, the light bulb lit up and it was realized by the four horsemen that the Open Meetings Law precluded the planned secret selection committees/panels after several SETTLETALK blasts.

Now the Council will have interviews at its Mon. Feb. 27 admin conference with selection scheduled at its Tues. Feb. 28 regular meeting.

No public announcements by any on the council or the council clerk have been made--either on the planned secret meetings or the selection process next week. SETTLETALK provided this information.

Oh--and the six candidates were a secret as well until released by SETTLETALK.

It’s time the other local media started publicizing this information.

Let's go to what is still unknown:

a. the format of the interviews on Mon.

b. the voting procedure on Tues.

c. if councilman Jackson will recuse himself from voting on candidate RJ Johnson who provided his recent council campaign with signs and who chaired the Caddo Democratic Executive Committee that endorsed him for the council.

d. If councilman Jackson will recuse himself from voting on candidate Shanerika Fleming who contribute to his recent campaign.

e. if all the council members will remember the illegal purchase of city insurance before former mayor Adrian Perkins took office that was spearheaded by Fleming.

f. if several council members will give serious consideration to white(s) candidates to fill a position in an office composed of all African Americans.

g. If the Green team of Taylor and Jackson have already picked a candidate much like they did with the assistance of then councilman Jerry Bowman, hubbie of now council member Ursula, in picking Kendra Joseph as council clerk in a secret process.

h. if the job description obviously pulled off some unknown webpage has been/will be seriously reviewed by the council members before hiring a person who could not accomplish the responsibilities without a small army.

i. if the selection process both days will be first on the agenda or last.

Geez...just minor details.

The circus starts Mon. and Tues. at 3 pm.

Look for the peanut and popcorn concessionaires on the sidewalk in front of Government Plaza.

Don't expect to see any elephants but watch out for the poop!
