CRASHING CRAWFEST, SALES TAX AND ABO PERMITS--MORE QUESTIONS FOR CITY OFFICIALS

Seemingly certain city officials and council members are ok with a public subsidy of a for profit event. Of course, it is NOT in their backyards.

Seemingly they are NOT concerned with good government principles.

Maybe these people will consider some very pertinent legal issues concerning Crawfest.

Here is a list:

1. Can a member of the public be denied access to the event that is conducted in an area of a public park?

2. Will a person be arrested if he/she crashes Crawfest and refuses to pay an admission fee?

3. Should sales tax be collected on the sale of Crawfest, beer, wine and other food items?

4. Is an ABO card required for all persons dispersing alcohol at this event?

5. Will the Shreveport Police Department conduct a sting to ensure no underage sales of alcohol at the event?

6. Will SPD ticket persons who park illegally on Fairfield and other adjacent streets?

CRAWFEST IS A FOR PROFIT EVENT.

The permit estimates 10,000 attendees.

Advance tickets are $7 and $10 at the event. Three-day passes are $15.

Big bucks to be made from ticket sales, booth rentals, alcohol sales.

So why the free ride?

Can other for profit events use Shreveport parks to hold FOR PROFIT events--like gun and knife shows, tattoo parties, Hustler Hollywood fashion shows?
