All prospective employers want positive, free publicity when trying to fill many positions and especially when holding job fairs.
Live! Casino held a highly publicized job fair at the Bossier Civic Center on Dec.4. The local media touted this event with substantial coverage--all of which was free.
Reports vary on the turn-out and the quality of job applicants. Those attending as spectators were less than impressed with the overwhelming majority of job applicants at the event.
The press releases sent about the job fair included the requirements for those seeking employment. One of these was "dress professionally to make a great first appearance." Evidently, this was not read by many who attended as evidenced by persons in sloppy jeans, tee shirts, and other very casual clothing.
The media hype also touted "on-the-spot hiring for hundreds of full-time and part-time positions." Casino officials have constantly repeated the mantra that "the casino will open sometime in the first quarter of 2025."
Without an announced opening date, it’s highly unlikely that persons were "hired on the spot." Casino officials at the job fair during its closing minutes were tight-lipped on the number of persons who attended and no comments on the number hired.
Live! Casino is making bold promises on the yet to be opened hotel, casino, restaurants, etc. The free press ticket will likely end a few weeks after the casino opens. Hopefully, future press releases will be more tempered about job availability, economic impact, etc.
