John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

 

OVERALL SHREVEPORT CRIME DOWN FROM 2024 WITH SOME EXCEPTIONS


The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) was set to give its monthly crime report at last Thursday’s (Dec. 18) council meeting. With an overflowing chamber crowd interested in the data center vote, SPD pulled its presentation in the interest of time. Even then the meeting lasted till almost 6:30 p.m.

Here is a summary of the reported crimes:

2025 homicides 41 versus 50 year to date 2024

1949 shots fired compared to 2455 in 2024

Shootings 224 year to date versus 275 in 2024

Sex crimes were higher—512 in 2025 compared to 467 year to date in 2024

Vehicle thefts are down—1190 in 2025 versus 1231 in 2024

56 armed robberies to date versus 75 in 2024

Burglaries 1251 this year compared to 1567 last year this time

901 vehicle burglaries in 2025 versus 1157 last year

Domestic violence increased to 2749 compared to 2526 last year

1321 major accidents up from 1278

Minor accidents increased to 8292 from 7924 this time last year

48 fatal crashes year to date 2025 compared to 40 last year.

Sex crimes and domestic violence incidents have been the subject of concentrated efforts by SPD, the Caddo DA, and social agencies. This is a continuing source of concern to SPD along with fatal crashes.
