MAYOR ARCENEAUX'S MEMO ON TRESPASSING AND SQUATTERS AN ANSWER TO JOHN-PAUL YOUNG'S JUDGMENT LAWSUIT?

On Feb.26, Caddo Commissioner John-Paul Young filed a Declaratory Judgment lawsuit in Caddo District Court asking a judge, in this case Judge Mike Pittman, to interpret the so-called squatter's law.

Commissioner Young and Shreveport Mayor Arceneaux have differing opinions on the authority of Shreveport police to deal with "squatters" and vagrants in empty houses.

Today, Mayor Arceneaux released the following memorandum--"Understanding Louisiana Trespassing Laws and Law Enforcement Authority on Private Property."

A court date on the declaratory judgment action has not yet been set. So, this memorandum can be considered Round Two in this fuss between elected officials.

In the meantime, another Highland house caught fire.  A news report indicates there were people inside the home at the time of the fire, but the utilities were disconnected. In this fire, no firefighter was injured as was the case in a recent fire in a vacant home.
