Two different venues.
Two different presenters.
Two different locations.
Two different audiences.
One common goal--to improve the quality of life for all Shreveporters.
In the morning Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux announced his Block by Block Initiative to address blight in Shreveport. Mayor Tom's program kicks off this Saturday with a sweep of a designated area in the Mooretown area. Next Saturday the sweep will be in the Highlands area.
This announcement was held in the heart of downtown--across from Government Plaza.
This effort is to not only combat blight but to start a process to remedy it on a block by block basis. This is not an overnight remedy but a well-researched and planned beginning.
In the afternoon WK Health president/CEO Jaf Fielder presented a check for $48,000 to the Anglin/Myers Public Safety Initiative. These funds will be utilized by Caddo Sheriff Henry Whitehorn and Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith for state-of-the-art technology to reduce crime and reduce random acts of violence.
This announcement was held at the WK Health campus in the heart of Queensborough.
These funds will provide a much-needed public boost for this much needed initiative. With this effort WK Health again has set the bar for community engagement.
These two different efforts will undoubtedly improve Shreveport.
Both deserve, and need, more community support throughout Shreveport.
