CADDO COMMISSION TO SET RECORD FOR MOST AGENDA SPECIAL RESOLUTIONS!

It's unofficial, but confirmation should be coming soon from the Guinness World Records to the Caddo Commission for the MOST SPECIAL RESOLUTIONS in one meeting of an elected body.

The Commission is well known for having agenda with numerous resolutions that usually take up more time than the actual business on the agenda. Efforts have been made to have the resolutions at work sessions or at the end of meetings. Unfortunately, these have not met with success.

So, if you like special resolutions, bring your lunch/dinner and attend the Thursday, June 5 meeting at 3:30 p.m. at Government Plaza. Surely, one of 15 (yes fifteen!) special resolutions will interest or bore readers:

- For Rufus Combs introduced by Commissioner Greg Young
- Remembering Patrina Jenkins introduced by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- For Ron Buntyn introduced by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- For Chef Niema DiGrazia introduced by Commissioners Victor Thomas and Grace Ann Blake
- For Hebert Penson introduced by Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts
- For Leroy Powell Street dedication introduced by Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts
- Remembering Mariah Carter Underwood introduced by Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts
- For  Mooretown Library's Evening with the Authors introduced by Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts
- Recognizing Pride Month introduced by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- Recognizing Juneteenth introduced by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- Recognizing Black Music Month introduced by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- Recognizing the 250th Anniversary of the United States Army on June 14th by Commissioner Ken Epperson.
- For Men's Health Month by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- For Alzheimer's and Brain Health Awareness Month by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- Recognizing National Cancer Survivors Day by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- For PTSD Awareness Month by Commissioner Victor Thomas
- For DJ Yoshi by Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts.

Goodness, one wonders what else could be recognized? And if a federal holiday is to be recognized (Juneteenth), will all other federal holidays need to be recognized? And what about the state holidays that are not federal holidays like Fat Tuesday?

These resolutions do not appear out of thin air. The Commission Clerk's office must research and prepare them for approval by the sponsoring Commissioner. After adoption, the resolutions are put on fancy paper and presented to the named recipient and/or mailed to the respective body.

All these resolutions will be voted upon and read into the record. And if anyone who is recognized is in the audience, then pictures will be taken and comments made by that person--if they can get through the draconian security check which all but requires clothing to be removed to enter Government Plaza.

These resolutions precede the real business of the Commission--like a vote to raise parish property taxes. The number of resolutions certainly thins out the audience attending the meeting as most people want to get home by 6 p.m.
