WHY ONLY ONE JULY MEETING OF CADDO COMMISSION

The Caddo Commission is the governing both of Caddo Parish.

The twelve (12) commissioners are the highest paid part time elected officials in the state--over $22,000 per year.

Generally the Commission meets on the first and fourth Mondays and Thursdays of the month.

The 2025 budget for the Caddo Parish is over $140 million.

Caddo Parish Commission has limited responsibility within the Shreveport city limits- animal control, Caddo Correctional Center, and the juvenile court complex.

Outside the city limits the Commision has zoning with the five mile district, solid waste disposal locations, parish roads and bridges, and economic development.

The Commission did meet the first week of July.

The next meeting is the Aug. 4 work session and then the Aug. 7 regular meeting.

There was a big conference in Philadelphia this month that many commissioners and parish staff members attended.  This was the National Association of Counties Annual Meeting. All expenses for this outing were paid for by taxpayer dollars.

Maybe the commissioners who attended constituted a quorum and they considered that to be the second July meeting. A public records request has been made to determine who attended and at what costs to the Parish.
Stay tuned.
