Last week Shreveport's Property Standards and Public Works personnel conducted neighborhood sweeps in the MLK area as part of Mayor Tom Arceneaux's campaign to eliminate blight.
On Saturday MLK residents were invited to also assist in that area. Reportedly over eighty (80) residents showed up to help. Without disparaging citizen efforts on prior "sweep Saturdays", this turn out was extraordinary to say the least.
Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor, who grew up in the MLK area and now represents it on the council. She is to be commended for her efforts to successfully gain citizen involvement in the clean up effort.
Litter, debris, old tires, dead animal, discarded household furniture and appliances, junk--and you name it--was collected. And unfortunately this is a problem in many Shreveport neighborhoods.
Collectively Property Standards and Public Works picked up over sixty (69) nine tons of this unsightly and unhealthy "stuff" and over 480 discarded vehicle tires.
One can only hope that the "bad guys" will stop this pattern and keep the MLK area clean.
Hat's off to all who assisted in this effort! A job well don
