PROGRESS AND BOSSIER CITY’S FUTURE!

BY: THOMAS H. CHANDLER

Mayor of Bossier City

Dear Citizens,

As my first term comes to a close, I have spent time reflecting on the past four years. It has been an honor to serve as Mayor of the GREAT City of Bossier City. I am proud of the promises fulfilled, but this is just the beginning. With my second term on the horizon, I am looking forward to building on these accomplishments while pursuing new goals, with excellence as the standard for everything I do.

FROM PROMISES TO PROGRESS

First Term:

• CITY ENGINEER - this position was vacant prior to my election to office in 2021. I am excited to have this position filled by a qualified and competent professional and I have high expectations for the future.

• NO-KILL ANIMAL SHELTER - the dedicated employees at Bossier City Animal Services, along with community partners, have worked diligently to achieve this designation. This has been an uphill battle, but our staff and volunteers have persevered, and I am incredibly proud of this accomplishment.

• FULLY-STAFFED POLICE DEPARTMENT - Bossier City has a long-held reputation for outstanding public safety. I have worked with the Chiefs of the Fire & Police departments to make sure they have every resource they need to make their departments even better. I am proud that we have added additional police officers to the force and, for the first time in many years, have a 97% staffing rate.

• TERM LIMITS - I supported term limits prior to being elected as Mayor and I am proud to have stood with the citizens of Bossier City who fought hard to have their voices heard to bring term limits to our city.

• RAISES FOR CITY EMPLOYEES - Bossier City has a staff of dedicated and committed professionals who serve our citizens each and every day. I am proud that these deserving men and women received meaningful pay raises that were long overdue.

• RUNNING THE CITY LIKE A BUSINESS - I have worked hard to make sure the City operates efficiently in order to maximize taxpayer dollars to meet the needs of our citizens. Over my first term, I have made changes to multiple areas of the city government to enhance efficiency for all stakeholders.

• CLEAN-UP EFFORTS THROUGHOUT THE CITY - Cleanliness is a priority for my Administration and it is a daily focus. I am constantly seeking ways to enhance Bossier City's appearance to instill pride in our community.

• BUILDING COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS - Mother Teresa said, “None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful." I, along with each of you, want great things for Bossier City. I will continue working with all stakeholders to ensure we leave a legacy of excellence for future generations to build upon.

Second Term:

• BLIGHT TO BRIGHT-I want to take cleanliness to the next level. I am evaluating the Public Works Department to maximize their impact. I will propose increased funding in the 2026 budget for Public Works to utilize contract services to amplify cleanliness throughout the City. I want citizens to see their tax dollars making a difference throughout Bossier City.

• BUILDING FOR TOMORROW - I am pursuing the purchase of an existing building to relocate Council on Aging. I am diligently seeking to secure a facility that will meet the needs of Council on Aging, as well as additional office space for other agencies and departments. This will increase efficiency and provide cost-savings to the City. I expect to have this secured within the first year of the new term.

• BOOST BUSINESS - Business is the backbone of our local economy. I want to make sure Bossier City remains "business-friendly" in order to attract new businesses and retain existing ones. I am committed to supporting all businesses and ensuring our rules and regulations are fair and not overly burdensome. I have met with the owner and managers of the Boardwalk and Pierre Bossier Mall, and I support their efforts to attract new businesses. My Administration will seek opportunities to help revitalize empty and abandoned commercial properties throughout the City.

In service,

Thomas H. Chandler, Mayor
