PLANNED PERMANENT DOWNTOWN DOME MUST MEET ZONING STANDARDS

The local media is reporting that G-Unit/Curtis "50" Jackson will erect a permanent dome on the parking lot on the corner of Travis and Commerce in time for next year's March Humor and Harmony Festival. A temporary dome was installed for the 2024 Humor and Harmony Festival on this site.

Currently contaminated soil is being removed from this area. Presumably this has been mandated by the Department of Environmental Quality.

A building permit must be obtained for construction of a permanent dome. To date, no permits have been obtained for any work on this site from the Shreveport Permit Department.

This property is currently zoned D-1-E. This zoning is intended for large-scale entertainment and related uses.

The downtown zoning district has dimensional standards for new construction which would include a permanent dome. This zoning district also has specified design standards for apply to new construction.  Application of these standards to a dome will most likely require extensive coordination with the MPC staff and possibly a variance approved by the MPC Board.

Shreveport MPC Executive Director Alan Clarke advises that his office has not been contacted regarding the construction of a permanent dome. Shreveport Permit Department Director Mike Sepulvado also reports no contact to his office.
